Sibling Resource Networks

Pediatric Low Grade Astrocytoma brain tumors impact the ENTIRE family, not just the patient. Siblings, especially, often report feelings of loneliness, desolation, despair, and neglect when another sibiling is diagnosed and being treated. This section is dedicated to the thousands of siblings who 'fly under the radar' during this stressful time and recognizes that the siblings need to know that they are not alone in their journey through the PLGA experience.

Support groups for siblings of PLGA patients are a great way to help other children in the family remember that they are not alone and that their feelings are shared by many others too. Some examples are:

Financial Support

PLGA families encounter many obstacles in the fight against PLGA.  Financial issues can play a big role in the stress for these families.  Fortunately, there are some wonderful organizations that can help.  Whether you are looking for help finding complimentary housing while your child is being treated at a facility far from your home, assistance with flight costs to a treatment program, or just general financial assistance due to the burden of medical costs and lost income due to your child's illness, there is hope.

Other Helpful Resources

PLGA families wrestle with a host of issues, which, despite their significance, often lack readily apparent centralized sources of information. The purpose of this section is to address some of these issues and offer potential resources for information on the following topics:

Other Pediatric (and General) Brain Tumor Groups

Included on this list are other Pediatric Brain Tumor Cancer Foundations as well as General Brain Tumor Cancer Foundations that may provide useful resources for parents of children with brain tumors. While these foundations are an excellent source of information, resources and support, few of these organizations, if any, offer dedicated PLGA resources, funding or advocacy. Hence the establishment of the PLGA Foundation.

Connect to Support Groups

Whether you have been in the PLGA world for a day, a month or years, no one can truly feel at home in a new place until good friends surround him or her. Our best friends are those we have much in common with. As we all know, PLGA is considered an "orphan" disease, so it is understandable that at times we all feel isolated, alone in our PLGA journey.
